K - Well i thought id just throw this out there in the basics forum

One of my biggest hurdles with enjoying the guitar was putting something together that actually sounded like music. Even after I got the basic chord switching down, I really didn't know where to go from there.

So after two - three years of playing I am always surprised by easy songs i like, but didn't think to look up.

Here's a few

Poison - Every Rose Has it
Lynyrd Skynyrd - All I can do is write about it
Travis Tritt - Drift off to dream (little harder contains F chord)
AC/DC - Highway to Hell (minus solo)
Johnny Cash - Hurt
CCR - Bad Moon Rising

Some of these may be lame but the point is I enjoy playing and sometimes I find I hit a wall with learning songs because of the difficulty. Sometimes I just want to bang out something new and fast.

Hope this gives some novices some ideas - just youtube any of those and there's a ton of instructional videos that should get you started quick; PM if you need help with the strum pattern

And please add to the list -
-Knocking on Heaven's Door (Gnr version minus 2nd solo,Bob Dyaln version)
-Let It Be By The Beatles (w/ Solo)
-The Zephyr Song by Red Hot Chili Peppers
-Tangerine by Led Zeppelin (fairly simple)
-Wherever You Will Go by The Calling
-Alot of Bob Dylan Songs
Fender MIM Telecaster ('06) [Modded]
PRS S2 Custom 24 ('13) [Modded]
Squier Affinity Fat Strat [Modded]
Yamaha F310

Mesa/Boogie Lonestar 1x12 Combo
Mesa/Boogie Mark V:25

SD Vapor Trail
Xotic SL Drive
Xotic BB Preamp
Boss BD-2
Boss DS-1 [MonteAllums]
MXR 10-Band EQ
Some ideas by me:

Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana
Sunshine Of Your Love - Cream (ok, the solo is a bit hard for novices but the rest should be possible)
Reptilia - The Strokes
Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo - Bloodhound Gang
Heart Shaped Box - Nirvana (ok, this is a little bit harder; for novices I mean)
Wishing Well - Buckethead (good exercise for chords)

And basically all songs by Blink 182 and Green Day
Did you say Travis Tritt ?

More than you'll ever know
Lord Have Mercy On the Working Man
Here's a Quarter (Call Someone Who Cares)

Just about every song from CCR and Johnny Cash is pretty simple, and loads of fun to boot. Lots of country/classic rock songs from the Cowpie Archives are available here, but I usually search there first so I won't have to dig through metal bands under the same letter. Toby Keith, Alan Jackson, Garth Brooks have loads of easy stuff. It gets a little harder with the guys with high-pitched voices (Alabama, Blackhawk, The Mavericks), and some of the singer songwriter guys like Clint Black, Brad Paisley, and Radney Foster put out some pretty advanced stuff.
