I play play mostly classic rock and hard rock GNR, pink floyd, zepelin. I also play some metal (black sabbath, maiden, metallica). I would also like decent cleans. I have speakers so heads are an option. I can spend 300 max. I am willing to buy used.

How big of an amp are we talking? Since 300 is your max I' guessing you want a lower wattage amp. If your just playing at home look at the Blackstar HT-5 head, I'm saving to get one for myself. It will do classic rock, hard rock, and even some metal though you might need a pedal to boost some of the heavier stuff.

I have heard it is hard to get good cleans from a windsor. For size I was thinking around 30w and not more than 50w. I have looked in to peavey classics, they cant do metal very well but I have wanted to try them with a metal muff. would the new 6505+ be good at classic and hard rock or is it more for T3h br00t4lz.

and there is a sale on a crate v33 head for 180, is it good?

The new 6505+ is more for teh br00talz, and I don't think your're going to get the best clean tones out of it.

with the proper pedal the Classic 30 can do excelent metal.

i tried a metal core with it this morning, my friend had one laying around.

it was bomb, but a metal muff i bet would sound even better.
