The volume knob of my Ibanez guitar suddenly jammed, and after reading some threads on the forum I realized I had to change the Pot. My guitar has got HSH and I wondered what would be best. A 500K or a 250K? And also I wondered if there are certain pot's that are better than other pot's.

Thanks.

500k pots give a brigher sound (eg Les Paul).
250k pots give a warmer sound (eg Stratocaster).

I heard someone say that Fall Out Boy had amazing guitarwork. But, it was a 13 year old girl, so it didn't matter.

I think this explanation might be a bit misleading...
Anyways,
500k pots are normally used with humbuckers, as they add a certain brightness into the tone (perfect for cleaning up the muddiness of a humbucker).
250k pots are normally used with single coils, like on a Strat, and adds warmth to the tone, rounding up the Strat's somewhat harsh treble end.

TL;DR
Humbucker= use 500k
Single Coil= use 250k

Also of concern is the pot taper, linear or audio, or how the pot is wound to variably change the output level.
