I was gonna say it looked good, but 128k miles? Has it had any major engine work?

Eh, automatic transmission put me off.

The V-6 brought me right back up. But, as everyone's been saying, the mileage is insanity for that car and is just bad for that price.

What's wrong with auto transmission? Shifting is so annoying, just let the car shift itself when it needs it.

try to haggle your way down about another 1-2 grand, then it should be good, but you're going to run into engine trouble down the road with that kind of mileage, unless its already had engine work to rectify that situation.
#9
Bad price for the amount of miles.

Oh, and V6/Auto in Firebirds/Camaros are a huge turnoff for me.

Alrighty so it looks like this thread lacks some major f-body (firebird/camaro) knowledge so here goes...
You can get a v-8, t-56 (6 speed) with close to that price if your in the right market. Run from this deal and quick. Around here firebirds go for 3-4k. Your getting ripped off friend. Also, the 3.8L's are absolute crap as far as performance and economy go.

If you have any further questions regarding vehicles send me a pm and I'll make sure you get yourself into something reliable w/o getting screwed bud.

Try to bargain with them to at least $5000.

At least. Cause honestly no one with any car knowledge would buy that, I'm sure they'll take a best offer.

I hate it. It takes the fun out of driving. In fact, any car made after 1997 takes the fun out of driving .

There's obviously a more logical reason to this, but my main reason is the fun of it.

Just to say this, a really reliable and quite efficent 90's GM engine is the 3800 V6. Cars such as Grand Prixs, Olds Aleros, and Chevy Monte Carlos have them. They're so reliable that people joke around saying the car will fall apart around the motor. Just to say, Grand Prixs are very reliable cars

You should get something thats ATLEAST below 100k miles..... and something with an auto transmission (IMO, anyways)...... and one that has nothing bigger than a V6. Youre not going to want to be paying for gas for a V8.

Manuals tend to last longer and require less maintenance (if driven correctly).

That being said, it's been debated that automatic cars are safer due to the fact that the driver doesn't have to watch the tachometer and worry with all that fancy footwork (and they can keep both hands on the wheel at once.)

I prefer automatics because they're easier. I can drive a stick shift but barely. I don't like them. Too much hassle.

EDIT: To the TS, don't do it. Here are a few reasons:

1. 7K for a first car is ridiculous. Unless you need it for serious cross-country commutes or something then you shouldn't spend over 4-5K TOPS for your first ride (unless you have the cash just lying around.) Statistics show that you'll wrap it around a tree anyways so why put so much money into it? My first (and only) car was 600 bucks. It's a Ford Escort from 1989. It runs great and is great on gas. That's all I need.

2. It's a T-Top. It may sound/look cool at first but you'll be pissed off in a year or two when the seals start leaking and mess up the interior of your car.

3. It has a lot of miles on it. My Escort only has 70K miles on it and it's 19 God damned years old. This is a 2000. It shouldn't have that many miles on it. Someone rode it hard. You don't want it.

i know that 7000 is a lot for a first car, but its not like i'm going to be in an epic n00b crash, i've been driving for over a year now lol..but ive just been drive moms car lol..

but i appreciate the help...still looking..ugh

Oh and almost all of the newer GM v8s get better gas mileage than that v6. Guaranteed. Your best best if your looking for GM (from where I have most of my knowledge), go with a 4.3L v6 (one of the best damn engines as far as durability) or find anything with a 2.2L ecotec.

Seriously dude, take a hard look at Saturn. They last forever and have NO resale value which means you'll pick one up cheap. Not only that but all the 2001 and on have side air bags and last for at least 200k.

You don't even know how wrong you are...

If you're EXTREMELY LUCKY, you won't be in an accident anytime soon. A year is nothing.

BTW, with a sports car like that your insurance will be high as hell. Also, if you're paying seven grand for a car then I would get collision as well as liability, which will cost you even more.

Did I mention that T-Top cars leak? I think I did.

That's why they don't make them any more, FYI.

For a nine year old car, that many miles means someone raped it.

T-Tops leak like a bitch.

It is not a stick-shift.

My three reasons for not getting it.

Insurance won't be that high...
#28
Whoa. T-tops are not the problem brother. They stopped making them when the camaros died off because that was the only brands that used them. Properly maintained ttops most definitely don't leak. My cuz has a 95 z28 that doesn't leak at all.
#29
Is there any chance you'll hit snow? I mean by which when you go to college? If so a firebird is not good as its back end is light and its rear wheel drive.

Your cousin is one lucky bastard, too.

My grandad has had two T-Tops over the past 15 years and they BOTH leaked at one point or another, forcing him to buy pricy new stripping from the Chevy factory.

And you have to buy it from Chevy, too. You can get the cheap off-brand crap from JC Whitney but it doesn't fit right.

My uncle also had one back in the 70's that leaked. They're notorious for leaking.

It's a bit on the expensive side.

- insurance is probably going to cost you quite a bit
- fuel consumption will be ridiculous because it's a huge engine
- the car has quite a bit of miles on it
- expect problems from the high amount of usage that the car has had
Equipment:
- Art & Lutherie Cedar CW (SOLD! )
- Martin D-16RGT w/ LR Baggs M1 Active Soundhole Pickup

How am I supposed to know where you wanna go to college bud? Ya, no snow in texas maybe but alot of folks come up to Ohio from there to go to school. Guess what, we have snow.

Anywho, my pops has a 2001 T/a and its t-tops don't leak. My bro had a 94, no leaks. My bud from highschool had a 97, no leak. Should I go on?

And to the fellow who said the 3.8L will get bad gas mileage because its a HUGE engine... Wow. I'm installing a 6.2L corvette engine into my 69 camaro and expect no less than 28 mpg (and yes I know what I'm talking about).

not sure if I would get one of those. For one, Insurance would be quite a bit. They are really low and if you're tall, it can be hard to fit (at least I found) and finally, they SUCK in the winter with any snow. I even had a hard time with sliding when it was raining!

Oh! also, you have to go slow as hell while going up any sort of ramp or turning into some shopping center. the bottom of the car is so low you will almost also hit it

Don't be so sure. I drove for two years and got into a collision where my dad's car had to go to the shop for a month (however, it wasn't my fault, I was rear ended). Don't be the typical overconfident teenager.
