You're no better for quoting him.

I want to learn some info as well. As far as I know, tis kinda like a high pass filter.

AH! sorry guys. I completley misread the post. THere was a thread about 2 months ago about some guy who was looking to buy a pedal but he didnt know what it did.

My apologies.

ok, this is all good and well, but i still don't really know what a lo-fi pedal does. what does it do to the final product - the sound out of the amp?

I use the ibanez lo fi pedal and it has four features:

High pass filter
Low pass filter
Distortion
A switch that adjusts the level for drums, guitar, or vox

So yeah, filters the sound and adds some grit. Pretty simple stuff. It's a great pedal, I use it fairly often for vocals.

As far as i know it is essentialy a low pass and high pass filter that can effect the tonal propertys of your sound to make certain freq's more emphasis.

Examples?
When your on a phone.
When using a cheap microphone
An old radio
A bad speaker
Ect.

Also what are you a gear spy?
I own over half of your want list and im actually looking to get a lofi pedal as well

you probably do:

(more) realistically:
Bugera 333XL-212
Ibanez WD7
and/or modded Dunlop Cry Baby of some sort
Ibanez TS9
and/or Ibanez TS808
Boss DD-20
Ibanez LF7
Digitech Whammy
Boss NS2
Boss DS1
Ernie Ball VP Jr. (i think the 250k is the one i need, not sure)

in my dreams:
Marshall JCM2000 DSL
Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectifier
Mesa Triple (just for fun)
'82-'84 Marshall JCM800
Peavey JSX
Fender Twin
a lot of cabs, ive never really looked at the specs of any one of them though, prob go with Mesa something

and getting onto other things here:
'72 Telecaster Deluxe
Korg PA2X
Fender John Mayer Signature Strat
Fender Pino Palladino Precision Bass
Belman Albatross Grand
Belman Hornet Grand
Belman Bass of some sort. these things cost a bomb and theyre already meant to be cheap...

there are quite a few others that i cant remember at the moment... i cant ever remember these things when i want to :/

Another good example is right after the breakdown in Elegy by As I Lay Dying. Basically, the lo-fi sounds like an AM Radio. It kills all the bass and makes everything sound small. Its a really cool effect

ok, i think i may have asked the wrong question, now thinking about it.

what exactly can an ibanez lf7 do. everything.
is it able to give a lot more bass to my sound?

im trying to get a pre-m2m brad delson (linkin park) kind of sound. that guy might be criticised for his guitar work, but bloody hell, he has one awesome tone.
basically, i looked at his gear list for what gives him that tone and the lo-fi pedal was the only thing i didn't know about. im pretty much wanting to achieve a similar tone without forking out the cash for a mesa dual rectifier.

no, this pedal will not make it sound like you own a dual recto.

It will, however, give you the effect used at the beginning of Points of Authority.

I suggest an overdrive pedal. Just cause brad has it on his pedalboard, doesnt mean you have to as well....especially considering you have no clue what it does.....

sorry...that came off harsh
I've bought, sold, and traded more gear than I care to admit.

^ +1. It's a very specific type of effect that you might use once or twice during a full set.
