I'm planning on going up to Long and McQuade later to get some accessories for a trip and was thinking about experimenting with different strings. I'm playing in the jazz band, so I was thinking about flatwounds or pure nickel to get a mellower sound. Any recommendations?

Go to DR's website. They have a lot of jazz players playing DR strings. A lot of metal players too. I don't like pure nickel honestly. It just never holds tone as long.
