Many years ago, guitarists started to use distortion. Then bassists started to, along with vocalists(harsh vocals). I think it's about time for the drummers to do the same. Anyone want to hook up an electric drum kit to a distortion or fuzz pedal? Good idea?

It loses dynamics so it doesn't sound good. Sometimes you can distort one part of the drum set (bass drum, for example. The Berzerker does this.) but when you distort the whole kit it's a really one-dimensional sound.

Sometimes a tiny bit of clipping will sound cool too (get that 'exploding drums' sound) but nobody would want to hear a whole song like that.

And light distortion like "the telephone voice" only sounds good on introductions or breaks in songs where everything is supposed to sound crappy and distant.

Electric drumsets arent very good. They don't feel right and they dont have a very good sound to them.

Isn't that what the St. Anger snare was for? A drummer's distortion? XD

That was the same logic that I explained to the saxophonist in my band, so we hooked up his microphone to an amp and cranked the distortion on it.

Hilarity ensued.

I'd like to put a ukulele through a flanger just to see how it sounds.

I went to an open mic once and this dude got up and played ukulele for 5 minutes with distortion, flange, wah, etc. He played it with a slide too.

The only problem was that he could not play the ukulele, and failed to notice this fact before he decided to do it loudly in front of people.

I'm a guitar teacher that works with beginners all the time and this was one of the top 5 worst sounds I've ever heard come out of a string instrument.

It's hard to hear in the live recording, but the Liars use flanger-like things on their drums. Here's a good recording of it on the song Leather Prowler.
