Hey all I was thinking of replacing the pickups on my Agile AL2000 Les Paul copy. I play blues to grunge to hard rock to thrash, but mainly hard rock. Any Suggestions on a good pickup combo?

humbucker from hell for the neck (not what it sounds like) and tone zone for the bridge. dont forget the coil taps.

right Metallica is a given. Personally I like to pretend the bus exploded and killed them all in '86.

Anything specific? I've heard good things about the Pearly Gates from Seymour Duncan.

IS the JB or Pearly gates more versatile?

SD doesn't make a JB neck, and if you put a JB (an A5 humbucker that is wound to 16k and notorious for flubby lows) in the neck of any guitar, I assure you it will sound like straight ass crack.

I'd advise you to get a set of PAF style pickups. It's much easier to get metal tones out of a PAF pickup, than it is to get good blues tones from a high output, distortion monster.

Any links to suggested ones please?

I like the WCR Fillmore set.

Since you didn't really specify a budget, I will assume they are in your budget.

Keep in mind coil tapping and coil splitting are two different things.

No.

If you are looking for versatility then EMGs are not the way to go.

Sorry if I missed it somewhere, but what amp are you using?
#22
JB/59 or JB/Pearly gates or JB/Jazz.

i think JB/jazz is most versatile, while the JB/59 are versatile as well. I like the jazz more for the metal stuff. dont know about pearly gates.
