Hey guys, I have been loking into getting a 5 string recently and the spectors sort of popped out at me. I would only be going for something <1000$ so they looked quite good. Any other companies making good (cheapish) 5 strings?

I play mainly heavy metal with my friends so I want to be s\heard over the mix as well as any lead guitar.

Thanks, C_had

P.S. apologies if this has already been posted elsewhere...

$1000 is a good price for a used instrument. You can get a whole heaping host of used instruments, from Fender to Ernie Ball to Warwick and beyond.

I was looking at a used Warwick Vampyre LTD 5'er for about $200. I went home to grab my wallet and came back and some jerk with an epic beard got it already..

^ This, though if you need a bass for metal that will cut through well, Warwick and Spector are probably your best choices out of the ones already mentioned. If you like Spectors, look into a Euro Neck-thru. You can find used ones well within your budget

thanks guys, I wont be getting it for a while but im definately looking forward to it!
The problem is that very few stores in my neighbourhood stock spectors or a lot of used instruments so i might have to do some online buying, which my parents are not fond of...

Spectors are great and every Spector I've played I really liked. If you have your heart set on it then go for it, but with that price range also check out some of the Schecter Stiletto Series basses and even used Warwicks.

1. For a used one, I'd look on Craigslist.
2. For buying one online, try to explain to your parents that there are many reputable stores that sell basses online, some of which are owned by companies which also have physical stores (such as musiciansfriend, owned by Guitar Center)

I saw that at a Guitar Center in Hallandale, Florida used for $399.99.

I... um... didn't have enough money so I bought a bass that was $199.99

I'm bringing it up every time I can.

i have found that, surprisingly, a Rouge has held up quite well.
The only one i have is a 5string, and it's a Rouge LX405.
Its got active pickups, a hard maple neck, rosewood fretboard, and sounds AMAZING when you slap it with active on.
The best part?
its only 219$!
Good deal for me, and I even use it while playing live.
