I don't think students should be suspended. I think confiscation is just fine.

Have you been caught with it before?

The only advantage of home-schooling is that it gives you good reason to commit suicide.

Hit this once or twice, and you'll be twice as nice.

I had a cell phone when I was younger- then I realised their a big waste of money and not to mention a tracking device as well..
#7
That's way overboard. Even my stupidly strict school wouldn't do that. Sometimes it's useful to have a mobile at school.

Pshh, I'm a good student and I still have a record.

My advice: suck it up and don't break the rules, if you don't like the consequences.

some do, but mostly it's just a necessary reaction. if they make rules and they aren't followed the classrooms are disrupted. usually they start with confiscation, but if necessary they change the result to suspension if confiscation doesn't keep a lid on things.

in general, it's not the schools getting carried away. it's the students, each thinking the rules don't apply to them personally.

It's all about context. Any phone that pops up should be confiscated until a parent picks it up. If you're being a distraction in the class because of your phone you should be suspended.

I don't see how a phone can be a distraction to other's learning, unless you're using it to play catch with or something in the middle of class.

You should just have it confiscated.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

An emoticon or abbreviation can't even due justice to the ridiculousness of this post.

And yes, they've taken it too far. There was an article recently about a girl with a phone in class. They called the cops, frisked her, and arrested her. She was 14 and texted her dad.

me too. "teacher harassment". The teacher failed me on a test so i ripped the test in half. Total bs.

but anyway, my school just takes your phone for the rest of the day, and if the teacher is a bitch you will get it back the next day. Usually they are cool about turning it off so your battery isn't dead either. I dunno, i use my phone a lot at school like inbetween classes when it is allowed. I mean yeah i have used it to text friends and **** but i don't think it is as big of a distraction as the school system makes it seem. And honestly, if a test is going on and you are texting somebody the answers, a teacher is going to catch you. It's pretty hard to do without getting caught, at least at my school anyway.

although you broke the rules an should face the consequences, that rule is utterly retarded. Here, we're allowed phones at school, as long as we don't use them in class, in which case we would get it confiscated and not returned without a parental signature, which is IMO, a little too strict, but compared with your school it's like fucking anarchy.
You're using UG classic, congratulations.
You should be using UG classic.

Anything that undermines a students attention to the instructor distracts other students as well. Not to mention that phones make noice, show photos, and play videos--all of these things are distractions to other students' learning.

Even just seeing some kid with his hand in his lap silently texting on his phone is a distraction to other students--it draws their attention away from what they're supposed to be learning.

God i'd hate it if you were my teacher.

I don't see why you shouldn't have your phone as long as your not using it. If it goes off then fine take it to till the end of the day.

Owch, Nazi Sweden? I always have my phone on me and keep it on the "General" profile. I ring people and text in class all the time. The sound of "Wait and Bleed" gets irritating sometimes.

I love being 18 and in Sixth Form.

Suspended for.. having your phone?

What?

Were you like... hitting people with it or something?

I don't understand

that sucks balls. Go to your head and demand he stop this faggotry. I use my phone all the time, in my GCSE classes last year i spent more time texting that working (yes i did still pass them all) you can listen to some boring lesson and use a phone at the same time so their argument is rubish that it disrupts learning

K', here's what you do:

Firstly, learn to not pull out your phone when you're not supposed to.
Second, you...well, that's all you need to do, actually.

That being said, a suspension is maybe a bit much. But THAT being said, I hate people who can't live without looking at a cellphone for more than a couple of minutes.

Wow, you be angry if i told you in the piss about lesson we have called learning skills we spend most of our time with our phones out, texting and listening to music, and the teachers don't do anything because they know there is NOTHING to do.
#40
I don't think it's grounds for suspension. But is it that hard to keep your phone off for 8 hours a day? Try learning instead of playing with your phone.
