To you guys I strongly recommend....
Learn Judas Priest songs. I'm not a fanboy who want everybody to like the band but:
I recently noticed that a lot of JP songs have a constant groove. For example Hell Patrol du- dudududududu du- That's the groove all the way and by following that easy groove you can develop rhythm skills and learn things you need in metal (palm muting etc.)

I don't know. I started learning metallica. The first metal song i perfected was master of puppets.

iron maiden ftw, helps you build up speed and accuracy, and its just fun to play that galloping rhythm which is common in most maiden material.
