I'm in a covers band who do Jazz and rock'n'roll tunes, and I play guitar and bass.

I swap over between guitar and bass during the set, and I was wondering if leaving a valve amp on without playing it will do any harm apart from wearing out the valves a bit like it would when playing normally. My amp (Laney VC15), doesn't have a standby mode.

So would it be ok, or should I borrow a solid state amp for gigs?

Also, how significant is this 'wear' over, say a two hour set?

You'll be fine. Leaving the amp on will drain the life of the power tubes, but power tubes can last for years, even with constant playing with the master volume cranked.

Cool, thanks. That's what I thought, but it was worth checking!
