I always wondered if there ever was a shredder that didn't play in the .08-.10 range but was lightning fast and played like they WHERE .08s.

Are there even ANY players (besides SRV) that played .13s?

I didnt have anything planned out, and I didn't know **** about improvising, so it was like "OH SHI- SOLO TIME" so I kerry-kinged it.

Karl Sanders.
90% of teens say they would cry if they saw the Jonas Brothers about to fall off a skyscraper, if you're one of the 10% who would shout, "JUMP MUTHA*******", put this in your signature

this is absolutely, 100% correct.
For example, Dave Mustaine has a signature coffee mix.

yeah but he also tunes down to drop C
which makes the strings feel sort of like 9s

I once saw somebody carry a Guitar Hero controller in a case to protect it. He probably should have packed his testicles in there too, seeing as he won't need to use those for quite a while.

I bet lots of players do to make the guitar sound thicker. I used to with my strat, 12's tuned to Eb. I still use 12's tuned to drop D, the sound overall to me is thicker.

From the man's own website.

He makes time to endorse some of his favorite products, including Dean Markley strings, Dale's string sizes are 16p, 18p, 20p. 38w, 48w, 58w...they use to be 39w, 49w, 60w.....he says he's getting lazy now

I tried shredding on a .13 but I just couldn't do it I moved back to my .08, mostly because I use a lot of bends and vibrato but speed definitely took a hit with .13

I used to use .11-.50's in E standard, but the brand I was using had a wound G and I wasn't able to get full-step bends on the G without REALLY bending the crap out of it. I'll probably go back to a heavy gauge like that when I find a set without a wound G, because I liked the sharp attack on the lower strings.
