I've read multiple times that Billie Joel does'nt use the e(high e) in this song, what does UG have to say about this?

EDIT* wow I'm an idiot....Billie Joe*****

People try to complicate that song far too much. It's just a basic strumming pattern, for the most part.
Only play what you hear. If you don’t hear anything, don’t play anything.

How is this complicating it?

makes it easier to play IMO

true
the pattern (referenced to string numbers)
6 - 4 - 2 - 4 - 3 - 4

no use of the 1st string at all.

EDIT: that pattern is constant throught out all chord changes, just with a changing root note. Then it starts strumming.

Some live performances he'll throw it in there for the lulz I guess, but I can't hear it on the recording.
