Do you know of any brand/type with a good "grip".. as opposed to earnie balls super slinky, for instance.

good grip like when the strings get really rusty..
#2
so you want cheap strings that rust real quick?

maybe that's the way to go.. ? put them in a can of salt water over the night

no.. actually I would prefer strings made with good grip out of the factory
#7
maybe.. but it's more of a "slippery" matter, a higher gauge would not help that much here..
if you compare to acoustic steel strings, they are much less slippy than electric (normally)
#8
Play Elixirs for a month and you won't bitch about Ernie's being too slippery.

You could always just string your electric with acoustic strings.

+1. Try Dean Markley Skullcrushers, Famous Monster Gauge. I found those have been the less slick of all the strings I've tried out. And I've gone through a lot of different brands and sizes.
#12
The only sound advice anyone could give on this matter is to try different brands until you find one that 'grips' the way you want it to. Other than that, perhaps you're not pressing down with enough pressure?
#13
Gonna be hard to find a new string that "feels" like rough rusted one. Every string Ive ever used came with nice smooth metal plating that when it does start to feel like it has more grip, the plating coming off, I put new ones on.

Spray them with 3M cement and dip then dip em in sand. Can't get more hardcore than that.
