ok i bought a cheap les paul copy and am currently stripping the neck of paint

but what sort of stain or varnish should i use , i dont want lacquer,as i hate that stuff,

also i hate sticky glossy necks

(ps what does grounding the wires mean?)

I used a polyurethane varnish on mine. gave it a very weak satin shine finish.

Are you sure it is lacquer you dislike? most guitars have polyurethane finishes. Older ones have Lacquer. Just sand it down and put some danish oil on, and its good to go.

Tung oil. Bottom line. And I'm pretty sure it's not lacquer you dislike.
