What do you call those power chords with the 5th removed so that there's just the two octaves (I guess it's not really a chord then)? Like the beginning of Machinehead by Bush. I feel stupid when I call them the power chord with no 5th.

They're called intervals. Power chord is the slang for interval. For example: An "A power chord" is an A5th interval but is usually called a power chord.

Just call it a 7th interval since it's not technically a chord.
By the way, a note with a 5th and 7th isn't a power chord. A power chord is a note plus a note a 5th higher. For example, A on the E and E on the A (wow that sounds weird lol) which is an A power chord.
