You can pitch correct live. Very well actually

Weezer do, and have done for years. I know this as I'm buddies with the guy who used to do sound at the convention center years ago.

Also a big name producer won't let a record leave his studio without applying pitch correction to at least the vocals to make for a "higher quality product".

It's also very common on guitar solos

It's gotten to the point now that bands have to ask not to be pitch corrected.

But for the purposes of this topic, my response is anything by T-pain or Lil-Wayne.

I think that T-Pain actually admitted to it, and isn't ashamed by it. Because he knows that he can't sing.

Yeah he did do that...

Kind of makes me wonder about where this industry is headed.

But at the same time, puritans like me refuse to let artists half ass their performances (live and recorded), thus i will keep the raw sound alive...

for now...

How do you pitch correct live? Decide in advance what notes you need the sound guy to help you with?

Are you asking if midgets can draw people that are themselves smaller than the average person, or if midget drawings in general are smaller?

Probably every band that has access to it uses it. Although, I've heard Avril Lavigne Live and she's really bad so they obviously studio her voice.

Edit: and T-pain uses auto tune to make his voice get that weird effect, same with Kanye (on the album 808's and Heartbreak)

No, a piece of equipment does it automatically. No idea what that piece of equipment would look like, or whether it is even a physical object.

There's something for the people who can't be bothered doing their intonation.

They use it in football. When the penalty spot hasn't been painted on properly, for example.

lol, I love the shroud of mystery this answer gives the elusive Auto-Tune.

I answered his question via PM, but for those who are interested a pitch correcter (auto-tune) looks almost exactly like a rack tuner, but has a few more buttons for programming.

Without getting too in depth, it AUTOmatically TUNEs an audio signal to it's nearest signal within a chosen scale and key.

For the Kanye/ T-pain effect you ignore the scale and just pick a key lets say A. So every note they sing gets dragged to the nearest A whether high or low. Thus the robotic/wavy sounding voice.
