Isn't the hirajoshi just the harmonic minor scale?
To be brave is to take action in spite of fear. It is impossible to be brave without first being afraid. To take action without fear is not brave, it is foolish.

The Hirajoshi scale is the minor scale without a perfect 4th and minor 7th or the harmonic minor scale without a perfect 4th and a major 7th.
