I'm doing a research paper about why rock and metal music don't cause people to commit crimes/suicide ect.

it's a 10 page paper so the more information the better.

so far i've got stuff about Twisted Sister fighting the PMCR, and the "Night Stalker"

EDIT: I screwed up it's acctully the PMRC Parents Music Resorce Center

and a lot of the stuff I've been finding is that it's not the music that cause people to commit crimes, but actully that persons background and stuff.

Round up as many rock and metal fans as you can and ask them how many people they have killed then average the total.
#3
Good idea, use Varg as an example.

Oh, wait.

You can't prove that universally at all.

Personally I'm of the opinion that metal does, in fact, cause people to murder. I reached this conclusion through careful deduction. My logic is as follows:

Metalheads/classic rock lovers are arseholes. It takes a right arsehole to commit a crime. Metalheads/classic rock lowers are therefore statistically more likely to commit crimes.

Wern't Judas Priest taken to court with something to do with backmasking (after 2 teenage deaths), but were proven innocent and that unlike first thought, their music had nothing to do with it?

try and find a rough number of people who listen to metal and rock

find a total of all crimes where metal was been proven as the cause. Absorb shocking difference

also say something about how it is never the person who blames metal and rock, but always someone else who is just looking for a scapegoat to suit their needs

I think we should kill all Metal fans. They're all twisted and evil because they only listen to awful noise which has corrupted their minds permenantly. It's only expected that they're murderers because clearly they're simple minded and get led astray by those evil lyrics which only preach violence and rape.

It makes perfect sense to reduce the cause for people's actions, namely complex sociological backgrounds and their interactions, to heavy metal.

Wait, no, it doesn't. I'm not even much of a metalhead and even I think that's retarded.

You should find this report helpful. Its on the BBC site so is fairly trustworthy.

It links different genres people like to their personality.

I doubt that you can prove that. It's extremely hard to prove a negative.
Alternatively, you could do a paper about HOW MUCH music influences people's actions.

your right, video games do.

on topic tho i dont think there is any actual proof as to whether metal and rock can make people commit crimes of any kind or not. use your logic to argue why you think that they dont. but they are popular scape goats. Marylin Manson and Ozzy Osbourne are two good examples of that
#27
Look up on the suicide and attempted suicide lawsuit that was blamed on Judas Priest's music. The kids both had troubled lives including neglectful parents and drug abuse, but they blamed it on the music.

IMO Rock does not encourage people to commit crimes. It does however make for a bitchin' soundtrack for committing those crimes.

Someone independently decides to commit a crime themself, it's there surroundings and physical state that influences them to carry it out.
Music can play a factor in certain cases but it is very unlikely that it's the most important element in influencing a criminal act
Even the people who payed trbiute to Varg by burning churches were not influenced as much by the music itself, more the message one man put across as his beliefs. If Varg had not burnt down any church then those people would still enjoy the music but wouldn't of burnt down any churches

Iron maiden's music had nothing to do with that riot at all!!!
The rioted occured because they couldn't get into a venue

I did a paper on the same subject a month ago.
For a few examples, you could use all the crimes blamed on Slipknot, the Judas Priest suicide controversy, tons of things.
