I give full permission for mods to close this thread. I just mean it as my stupid idea for the day.

Has anyone ever tried strumming chords with a violin bow on thier amp? What did it sound like? Cats gargling razor blades or beauty? I wouldn't imagine it sound much different but...

Do you mean bowing chords? I can't see a way of strumming them.... It sounds pretty cool but it's kinda hard to do since the string profile is pretty much fla.t

strum..? or glide the bow on the strings. It sounds pretty cool, but it wears out the bow

I've been thinking about messing around with a violin bow. Seems pretty cool. Watch some youtube videos of Jimmy Page using one.

Man those electric violins are cool! I feel like learning that instrument now. It would probably kick my butt though

jimmy page would hit all the string with the bow to sound chords, it's tough to bow them like you would on a violin, as they are flat, as said above.

'Strumming' is the wrong choice of word. you can drag it across the strings, but you can play pretty much only chords. Good luck getting the rosin off the strings.

Its hell on the violin bows, jimmy page had a source for screwed up bows so he just threw em away after shows. But would get expensive for your average user. And the rosin needed for it to work good is nasty gets all over your pickups and gunks up the strings.
