So about how long would it take someone to learn drums good enough to be in a band. I don't mean like Neil Peart stuff, but at least able to do somethings. I'm trying to get one of my friends to learn, he said he would but i'm wondering how long i'm gonna have to wait.

Just teach him:

4/4 measure. High-hats on 1,1&,2,2&,3,3&,4,4&. Bass on 1,3. Snare on 2,4. Every now and again play a fill on the toms and hit your crash.

/drums.
I've decided that my signature is terrible. I'm open to suggestions.

A couple months, I was already jamming after like a month of playing (I had a tiny bit of experience before I started drumming). I've been playing since September and I'm already in a band(ish).

it really shoudlnt take long to get basic drum beats down.

However long it takes me to have sex to completion. So, I'd say about 20-30 seconds.

Pfft. I'd lose interest if it took me that long. You must knock the ladies dead. I usually ejaculate as the condom goes on.

It depends on the person, but it probably shouldn't take more than a couple months of good practice. Drums are pretty easy to learn the basics of and apply in a band setting but very difficult to master. Kinda like bass and keyboards, but that's a whole different discussion altogether.

It varies dude. What genre? Punk, probably 6 months. Metal? pretty long. Jazz? LONG.

Well, I'm big into pearl jam so I'm gonna try him no that. Also like playing things like Alter Bridge and Foo Fighters. Classic Rock as well like Sabbath and dare I say it Rush but I'm not gonna make him learn that.

as embarrassing as it is to say, Rock Band taught me hand-feet coordination and basic beats. If you play RB drums enough, it actually transfers well to real drums. so do that.

Ok.... my friend..... who Im now in a band with..... he had no idea how to play drums and had never tried in his life. We had practice at my other friends house (because he has a drum set) and it only took my friend half an hour to pick up on it and he could play fine the whole practice...

Yeah, drums seem really hard, huh?

he wasnt playing Neil Peart or Keith Moon status though.

i came into a band as bassist, but filled in the drummer position after 1 or 2 practices. And like halfway through the practise i could play along pretty decently, so it shouldnt take that long. Just make him listen to the song over and over and over and pay attention to the drumbeats, helps alot imo ^^
