I just got my new Fender Marcus Miller (4-string, MiJ), and it's awesome. But when I took it out of the box it had been setup in a way so that the E and G strings had lower action than A and D. In a way this was good, because it felt good to play, and there was no fret buzz at all. But it also meant that E and G had much louder outputs than A and D.

If I lower the action on the two middle strings, i get buzz from those two.
If I increase the action on E and G, I get a horribly high action.
If I do nothing, I get loud output from E and G but weak output from A and D.

What do I do?

Yeah i guess so. Anyone who has experience with compressors? Do they have any unwanted side effects or anything i should know about?

You shouldn't have to have such a wierd action, it should be GDAE lowest to highest action, and it doesn't matter about a little bit of buzz.
Compressors, when used in moderation will smooth out your playing and also add a certain element to your tone, depending on how much you use, a sort of punch or energy, which I cant quite describe because its been a while since I used one. If you overdo compression, it can adversely affect your sound by killing the dynamics and losing the subtley for a sort of staleness.
