I'm playing an acoustic set Tuesday night, and I'm looking for a couple of new songs to try. My set list so far is

1. Protest Singer - Kevin Devine
2. Resurrection Fern - Iron and Wine
3. Just Stay - Kevin Devine
4. Play Crack the Sky - Brand New
5. Been Smokin' Too Long - Nick Drake
6. Wade Across the Water - Iron and Wine
7. A Cold November - Me
8. The Trees Are Conspiring - Me
9. ???
10. ???
11. The Trapeze Swinger - Iron and Wine

I need two new songs, so if anyone has some serious suggestions, I'd be happy to hear them.

Thanks!

BIRD EDIT : Thanks guys, lots of great suggestions so far. Keep 'em coming!\

BIRD EDIT 2: Elliot Smith's Say Yes will be getting the #9 slot, still looking for #10 though.

Rock lobster!

no seriously, every time I hear an acoustic set, I try to get them to play it, and always get told they don't know it

And +1 to black by peral jam, or even yellow ledbetter (sp?)

Wat?? Trent Reznor wrote it. It's the last track on the downward spiral. Mr. Cash did the cover.

Thing is, yellow ledbetter is a pain in the tits to do well... you need to get that mumbling just right

State of love and trust acoustic is pretty good too.

Another suggestion, TS- try a song called Falter by Hundred Reasons- the verses aren't chorded, but the guitar is easy to play and sing to.

After The Goldrush - Neil Young
Why Don't You Write Me - Simon & Garfunkel

EDIT: your choices so far are great.

Live acoustic version of the light and the glass by Coheed from the Starland Ballroom DVD

EDIT: You need a song the crowd can sing with you and I vote for the Campfire Song Song by Spongebob Squarepants.

Something by Elliott Smith maybe? (e.g. The Biggest Lie, Angel in the Snow, Speed Trials, Say Yes, St. Ides Heaven, Between the Bars...) It seems like it would fit in well with the rest of the songs on your set-list.

YES! do Say Yes and Needle in the hay. Do it.

Or you could do such great heights... and an acoustic version of Nothing Better by The Postal Service could be good.

Do Soco Amaretto Lime by Brand New.

Edit: Do some Damien Rice
aaaaaand maybe The Rest Will Flow by Porcupine Tree?

Doubledit: Some John Frusciante?
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools

Music isn't the Olympics. It's not about showing other people what you can do with a piece of wood in your hands that has strings on, it's about making sounds that are good.
