Punk has always been placed at the bottom of the "technical chain" of music (although it shouldn't be, pop belongs below punk,) so lets try and name some of the best and most famous punk riffs.

I will start off, add some stuff of your own.

T.S.O.L - Abolish Government/Silent Majority (riff right at the beginning

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETKuoHlYuHM

NOFX - Seperation of Church and Skate (starts at 0:21)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYLqvfckh-U

Lagwagon - Coffee and Cigarettes (starts at 0:07)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9Y5vaZO9Tg

NOFX - Stickin in My Eye (starts at 0:27)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-EQ_VVMtKck

Just say some of the best guitar riffs in the whole genre of punk that you know.

This thread is pointless, but I am bored, whatever.

Holiday In Cambodia - Dead Kennedys
I Wipe My Ass With Showbiz - A Wilhelm Scream
5 To 9 - A Wilhelm Scream
Basically everything by A Wilhelm Scream, this shows why: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQPRtDCFAGE

Purina Hall Of Fame, Die Jugend Marschiert, Nation States, Iteration, Supporting Caste and so many countless others by Propagandhi.

Two of the most technically gifted bands of the genre by far in my opinion.

It's a cliche, but lots of Sex Pistols songs. I especially like Satellite.

I hate to mention Blitzkrieg Bop, but it honestly has a great riff. So do Cretin
Hop and The KKK Took My Baby Away.

Richard Hell - Blank Generation.
Stooges - Raw Power, 1970, I Wanna Be Your Dog, No Fun
Black Flag - Nervous Breakdown, Fix Me, White Minority (verse riff)
The Clash - Tommy Gun (the E riff followed by the drum fills)
Joy Division - Warsaw
DK - California Uber Alles as someone else said
Germs - Lexicon Devil, Circle One
MC5 - Motor City is Burning
Misfits - TV Casualty, Some Kinda Hate
Jawbreaker - Boxcar
Op Ivy - Plea for Peace (somewhat obscure)
PMS - City as a Beehive, Machine Made Man

I notice most of these happen to be some of these bands' "hits." It appears there
is a strong correlation between the popularity of a song and the coolness of its
riffage. Interesting.

Honestly I don't see how any of the riffs in TS's post stand out in any way.
Except for the second one. I can see how somebody might like it, although I
don't.

Fuck you werty, Abolish Government is awesome.
Journalism is just a gun. It's only got one bullet in it, but if you aim right, that's all you need. Aim it right, and you can blow a kneecap off the world.

The Clash - White Riot, Hammersmith Palais, Complete Control, Jail Guitar Doors (not very inventive, but The Clash are the gods of making really awesome chord riffs)
Zivilisation - H.M.asS (I go with Josh and mention my own band, but I love that Riff)

Sex Pistols - EMI
Subhumans - Religious Wars
Nausea - Sacrifice
Amebix - Coming Home
Naked Aggression - Right Now
Fifteen - Lucky (the riffage at the end is amazing)
Reagan Youth - Queen Babylon
The Freeze - pretty much all of their songs
Edwards Les Paul Custom
Burny SG Junior
DIY Telecaster
Keeley RAT 2

I really hope this is a joke... BECAUSE THEY'RE THE EXACT SAME F*CKING "RIFF."

Seriously... just slightly different timing... My band always f*cks around mashing the two together because it's comical how similar they are. Seriously... try it some time. It's fun.

Rancid are the best punk band ever.

Tim Armstrong is a songwriting genius, is a complete fashion diva and has an incredible singing voice.

He doesn't sound like Opie from family guy at all.

+1 to "Art-I-ficial". I love that riff.

Dead Kennedys have tons of cool riffs. "Soup is Good Food", "Too Drunk To ****", "Government Flu"; the list goes on!
Not to mention Klaus Flouride always had the coolest bass riffs. Listening to Anti-Flag made me wanna get a bass (ah, youth), but by the time I actually got one Dead Kennedys were my true inspiration.
On the topic of bass riffs, "She's Lost Control" by Joy Division has to be on of the best bass riffs ever. And I really love Joy Division's guitar licks too. Nothing flashy, but then not much about that band was.

I have to say though, I never thought any of Greg Ginn's riffs were all that great. I mean, I know half the punk forum sucks his and Black Flag's dicks, but I don't think his playing was that great. Not in Black Flag at any rate. Give me East Bay Ray or Bob Mould any day.

The old stuff from Green Day is great pop punk (mostly the Dookie album) but most of the things after American Idiot suck.

Old is a relative term. I think it's fair to call Dookie their "old stuff," especially since they've changed significantly since then. Besides, I'm pretty sure everyone here is aware of their pre-Dookie music.
