i haven't turned my amp fully up, but are 65 watts enough for a gig at a small venue? will it be able to play over the drummer?

You should be alright. I used to have a 65 watt crate GX and it was pretty loud. Might not sound the best, but it should get loud enough.

It'll be loud enough for a gig. It probably won't cut through like you'd like, forcing you to turn up louder, but it should definitely do the job with a little volume to spare.
