I'm trying to do some cheap recording by running a cable from the line out on my amp to the microphone jack on my laptop

everytime I record with audacity, the volume and sound quality sounds good for about five seconds, then slowly the volume tapers out. the sound also gets distorted on top of that, so it still sounds bad even if I amplify it. is this a common problem?

if there's a line in jack on your laptop plug it there. the quality is way better than the mic jack, atleast that's what i've found when recording on my comp.
i used to be a mod, then i took an arrow in the knee.
