So I see threads on here all the time about building basses. I am just now working up the courage to try this on for size. What are some reputable suppliers and any tips for a bass builder virgin?

there are a few people that give UGers discounts at allparts.

tips, design it like a player, not like a builder. and check out GB&C.

I wouldn't call what we have here on the Bass Forum a mentality. It's more like the sharing part of an AA meeting.

a builder will build something because it is challenging, or easy. that of course, may not be what they would actually like as a player. for example, as a builder, I would want to make an extravagant, wild shape. as a player, I would much prefer the standard double horn jazz bass shape.

also try guitarpartsusa.com, or hit up eBay. Warmoth, while high quality, is very expensive, i suggest using stewmac.
Also, make sure you take your time and use quality parts. Its much less satisfying to build a guitar or bass thats inferior to one you have already. Hit up the building and customizing forum, they'll get you started on the right track.
