Ok, looked at some Youtube clips, looks cool BUT

http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews/Guitar+Amp/product/Bogner/Alchemist+Head/10/1

These guys seem to think not...

Any first hand experience of the Alchemist?

If people have other suggestions heres my Criteria:

Play mainly 80's Rock/Metal (i.e. Bon Jovi, Cinderella, Motley Crue)

Mainly looking for a High Gain, Low-ish watt (something around 20, 30, 40, 50 watt) Tube Head

My Budget is pretty poor, it would be around £650 tops...

I played with it extensively, and I thought it was pretty good. Not mindblowing, but not bad. I think it's overpriced though.

I thought it was a great sounding amp.
I don't give a shit if you listen to me or not

I've tried it, and well, the clean was ok, nothing spectacular, but the distortion was really bad when I tried it. Maybe it was a bad tube, I don't know, but I turned it up pretty loud in the shop, and I swear, my H&K SS amp sounded better than that.
I think it's overpriced though.

Then its not the amp for you, its a pretty decent low gain amp but for high gain it lacks in quite a few areas.

Look into a Jcm 800 combo with a boost and it will suit your needs alot better.

Then get the head version ... That one is my bad, figured you were looking for a combos since you were looking for smaller wattage and didnt see the head part lol.

uck. I played it, I thought it sounded like ass, but I guess alot of people like it. Try to test it out. Maybe what the other guy said, a bad tube or something. B-52 at112 is pretty good. I liked it better than anything I tried at GC

I thought the Alchemist was OK. It is a low-end Bogner. Like theo said I'm not sure if it is worth the $$. The on board effects work pretty well. I didn't care for the look or the knobs. The combo and head are 40w switchable to 20. I think.

^I didn't know that, I only see the 40/20 head and combo versions.

I also do agree with IP that it may not be the best amp for what TS plays.

TS, try our 5 step program and you can guaratee you'll get some great suggestions.

Budget?
Home or Gig?
Genres? (how heavey do you need to get and how clean do you need to get)
New or Used? ....(great deals out there)
Closest Major City?

I liked the Alchemist a lot, but it might not be quite right for you.

If you can't find a JCM800, maybe a Randall RM50 with a Plexi and/or Brown module? I have no idea what they go for there though?

It has a great van halen sort of sound. Love it

What's the speaker like in it? If that's one of the areas where they've cut costs, that;'ll be a major reason so many people are unhappy with the tone.

The other big reason is that it's got the 'Bogner' badge on the front. Now matter how good it is, that's going to skew peoples' judgements considerably. People want it to be an affordable piece of Reinhold's magic, but it's just an average-joe midrange tube amp with a slightly inflated price. It'd be the same if ,say, Mesa, designed a new range of cheaper amps made in china or something. Some may love it, some may hate it.

Well vintage 30 in the 1x12 and G12M and H in the 2x12 so no corners cut there

I like the alchemist alot, but i play alot of A7x and stuff for that, im right now working on saving up for either that or a Bogner Ubershall, look used though cause there are some awesome deals out there.

Also, what would be a good "cheapish" head or combo for high gain lead such as whats heard in Bad Girlfriend by Theory of a Deadman (the lead)?

Have you tried a pedal, with a boost, OD or EQ, you should be able to get the sounds you want at decent volume with a JCM 900.
