I was thinkin about cymbals today (im a drummer) and i was like
"you know, itd be cool if i hung a cymbal vertically in front of a kick pedal and played it like that"
Im gonna try to use it during blast beats and such
So I think im gonna try that tomorrow.
Is this win?
yes or yes?

Its worth a try.

My drummer once hypothesized about hanging a cymbal from the ceiling by some wire or something, but that made me imagine some sort of swinging pendulum of death capable of beheading both him and our keyboard player in one swing.

Yes...
But not that deep throb of a gong.
I was thinking china, but they seem too flimsy, so ill just experiment.

SCIENCE!

Quote by InvaderTSN
You should get another kick pedal so you can still do blast beats.

Ive got about 6 pedals laying around.
Shouldnt be a problem...

I'm no expert, but aren't kick pedals padded? wouldn't doing this require you to remove the padding, and thus drastically lower the resale value for something that probably will sound like shit?

Lol it's not revolutionary or anything... ever heard of a "gong"?

C'mon, man. We're just kidding. We all know that drummers are important.

After all, without drummers, who would bag my groceries?

Why would i take off the padding on the beaters?

My drummer and I did that once. It will work better with a gong, but if you don't have one, then you need at least to supporting cables to the cymbal (if you hang it) and a lot of support for it.

I was planning on just tilting the cymbal stand all the way down.
To be honest, i didnt really have a Plan B, and i dont have support cables...
I guess guitar cables could work?

Do you have six bass drums as well? If not, you should get some.

I was gonna get 2 or 3, and tune em differently, but then i thought
"Hey, Joey Jordinson does that and i think that guy's a cocksmoker"
Nothing against slipknot or w/e
And i know of better drummers that do it
Its just those damn kids these days wouldnt get it.
#23
No. I've tried it. It doesn't work.

The only way it could POSSIBLE work is if you have three pedals, or you won't have any bass, only cymbals.

Hmm, maybe try hanging the cymbal on the other side of the bass drum so when you hit the bass pedal, the vibrations from the drum ring the cymbal?

If exploring different sounds is wrong then I don't want to be right

You gotta be open to new stuff bro.
Ive put like factory metal piping on it before, and it sounds just like youre playing Galaga.
****in GALAGA.
Hell, i was thinkin about fashioning flat wind chime bars like twistedsteps off of a stand and play em like a xylophone.
Or using a circular saw blade as a cymbal.
Innovation is key man.

This, but you should also have double bass pedals for triple awesomeness.

Then again, I'm not a drummer, either.

The man sure loves his cymbals
I never really gave HORSE the band a real listen, but i might have to now.

i don't quite understand what you mean

Think of a hanging gong.
Now put a bass pedal in front of it.
Play the cymbal with the pedal.
Thats the basic concept of what I'm attempting.

He only subbed for HORSE's drummer, he drums for The Number Twelve Looks Like You. The stuff that comes up first isn't as good as some of the stuff you can find. Keep looking; he is so wild/crazy.

Terrible idea. However, if you lay a splash down on the snare, you get make it sound JUST like a clap track

So that it doesn't sound like you hit a cymbal with a padded stick. Unless you're into that kind of thing.

why not just get some coloured lights on your kit, then pour water on the snare and toms, then you can look really stupid when your using your bass & cymbal combo. narrrr good for you, but if you want to experiment, buy an electric kit then you can use all sorts of digital effects..... or you could just join slipknot..... garbage cans!!
