Hi all!

Got my new amp today.. Blackheart Killer Ant with Blackheart Little Giant cab.
I ordered the Little Giant first but it wasn't in stock.. so i gave the Killer Ant a try.

Sounds very nice... for my bedroom but that's all i need at the moment.

I was wondering... does changing the tubes change the sound alot ?
I like the sound know but I want to get the most out of my amp.

What tubes do you recommend ?

Does anyone from the netherlands know a (online) store that sells tubes?

Thanks in advance

No not really. I mean a good tube change will make it sound better but probably not right now. The tubes are probably still new since you just got it. Use those tubes instead of wasting money. When it's time to change them get better ones. But might as well use those up. I mean you probably wouldn't tell that much difference if you did get other ones anyway. I never really do. The only time I can tell a difference is worn out tubes being replaced with new tubes.

It's a good idea to have a spare set of tubes on hand, just in case the current ones decide to go defective, and then you can see if the difference in tone is noticeable to you.

Lots of people recommend JJ power tubes and tung-sol preamp tubes, don't know of any netherland tube stores, nor what tubes the killer ant uses, and I don't want to look it up

Play it for a bit to get things broken in. An extra set of tubes is a good idea. If its made anything like the epi vjr then better tone is going to mean more than just some tubes.

The killer ant uses an EL84?
I just thought they had two 12AX7s.

Anyways, yes, changing tubes does change your tone. Especially when you're upgrading from the chinese rubbish that they come with.
A pair of JJs or Tungsols should fit the bill pretty well.

I bought the BH5H and put in a GE long plate 12ax7a and a RCA EL84, really toughened up the tone on it, it was sounding a little harsh unless i turned the highs knob all the way down, but after the tube swap its much nicer now, also different tubes will yield different results. Head over to www.Gearslutz.com send BOWIE a pm, tell him LoftyBoys sent ya. Hes got good stuff.
