guys,im building a ML shaped guitar soon enough, and i was wonder this:

1: Ash would be okay for the body? i dont really believe that it affects the tone from my amp DRASTACLY, and no, i cannot buy alder here,no where in the province does.

look at the pic.
1: what are these called? where can i buy them? (the v plate behind the TOM bridge)
2: this is just a normal les paul input jack right? or do i need something else? again, where can i get them (input, lower right)
3: its just a normal 3 way toggle switch from les pauls right? (the switch :P)

thanks before hand

EDIT: i didnt let the pic upload, sorry

sorry, had to butcher image due to stupid size regulations....i may as well link you if it doesnt work....

1. yeh ash would be fine.

can't see a pic so can't answer 1&2 there

but 3. yes, as far as i know, ALL les pauls have a 3-way switch

lets try this in GB&C shall we?

ok, now the first thing is yes, that wood will be fine. there is a tone wood FAQ floating around GB&C that you might want to search for and look over for some ideas.

then number one, that just looks to be a through body string retainer thingy.
second and third, yup just standard input jack and toggle.

where to buy from, well there are tons of places. one of the stickies here in GB&C has some links to stores. allparts is a common one, as is warmoth.

it says it is?
you moved it didnt you?
yea,the retainer thingy is what im mostly wondering....what is it called!?!?

ok,so its just a standard 3 way toggle and a Les Paul style input?

yup, i moved it

that retainer is usually a tailpiece, but the standard one on a LP is more like this
(stewmac is another place for parts)

however we are looking for something that is, well not that. and i honestly cannot find one with a quick search, but maybe someone with a little more experience with this stuff knows where to find one.

tailpiece, its a string through, holes are drilled through the body for the strings. you dont need the v-plate, but if you want it, you'd probably need to have it custom made, ive never seen them anywhere, or try ebay

i tried ebay...
yea, i know, ferrules in the back, and then the plate in the front..

take a sheet of plastic or something, and cut it out like that, then screw it on?
i know a buddy with a dean V and it has it,and if he changes strings i could then trace it.....maybe just black ferrules on both sides? it'd be easier

http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Bridges,_tailpieces/Electric_guitar,_Tune-o-matic_bridges/1/Gotoh_Tune-o-matic_Bridge_with_Studs_Bushings/Pictures.html#details

with ferrules.
right?
would i have to shim the neck then?
are ml necks shimmed?
i saw people recess the bridge in....

EDIT: dang,is there any way to get it in black?
bc im painting the guitar arctic white then...
in a mag i have, the ML has a black tailpeice....
back to the google i guess

2NEDIT!: heres the guitar i saw http://archive.liveauctioneers.com/archive3/sixstringmasterpieces/12606/0022_1_lg.jpg

and with these fretboards from stewmac could i cut off 24th frets for the E A and D string?
and what about removing the part after the nut,so it goes non strat like..

sorry for many Q's

Just search 'v tailpiece' on ebay

http://instruments.shop.ebay.com/items/?_nkw=v+tailpiece&_sacat=619&_fromfsb=&_trksid=p3286.m270.l1313&_odkw=v+tailpeice&_osacat=619

(personally they are ugly I would just use top ferrules)

Ash will be fine for a body, but on such a large guitar it will probably be very heavy.

Dont shim a neck unless you have to, build in a neck angle if you need one, or recess the bridge.

and yes you can shape the fretboard to meet your fret and nut requirements.
