Honestly I have no idea. I would google it if I were you.

I did and there are a lot of topics on it with people giving some pretty good insight.

Can anyone explain to me why the Navy has planes? I thought they were the boat people.

Also, can anyone explain to me why we have multiple branches of the military? It seems like such an inefficient system to me. If I were president I'd streamline the whole thing, they waste enough of taxpayers money as it is.

Point A, Navy actually has more skilled pilots than the Air Force. At least in aerial maneuveribility. Strange, no?
Reason being that Air Force is plays it by the book and operates in a more "mechanical" way.

B. Multiple branches do multiple tasks. Do you know how many people are in military? You need the divisions so people do their job and do it right.

C. People complain about the cost of war, without realizing it's keeps economies afloat (at least the victors economy). How that money is redistributed and to where it's relocated, that's a different story.

Senor Fretman, since your becoming a pilot either way (I assume), it all depends on what you wanna gain from your experience and how you wanna go about flying.
You would need to ask people (pilots) from both branches and see what suits you.

I'm reading that the quality of living for those in the Air Force are greater than any other branch.

You might wanna consider that.

I'd be in the Air Force if I were you. Actually the Infantry since that's what I'm going to be in. But like being on a boat for months on end with hundreds of guys is not my idea of fun.

Unless you want to get stuck on a boat in the Navy for weeks, months or years at a time, then go for the Navy. I'd go with the Air Force because that's their specialty. They're there to fly basically. The experience would be better in the Air Force as it's specialised. I know that's too narrow to really explore all the careers in there, but it's in a nutshell.

You could just talk to recruiters, but in my experience, the recruiters for the Australian Defence Force are hopeless. They don't know a whole lot, even thought they should have been through it. Of course they'd be a start, but nothing would substitute for people that are doing it now.

I have it on good authority that in the navy you can, you can find pleasure and search for treasure, not to mention sail the seven seas and put your mind at ease .... its a no brainer

EDIT: In response to two posts up: And what would happen if an air force plane landed on a navy air craft carrier or is that similar to dividing by zero?

B. Multiple branches do multiple tasks. Do you know how many people are in military? You need the divisions so people do their job and do it right.

I understand that. It just seems somewhat bureaucratic and inefficient to me. I guess that's just because I believe in cooperation, but that's not their business now is it? (just a joke, don't kill me with your words)

C. People complain about the cost of war, without realizing it's keeps economies afloat (at least the victors economy). How that money is redistributed and to where it's relocated, that's a different story.

The more I hear people say this the more it disgusts me. Essentially, it sounds like you're saying that each and every one of us is profiting off the deaths of millions of people and its totally acceptable. The fact that there even are companies like Blackwater than profit from violence and even lobby for war sickens me. The US spends ten times more than any other nation in the world. I'm sure there's something we could do to be at least little more cost effective.

People love the military way too much in this country and let them get away with far more than they should *cough abu gahrib cough guantanamo cough* so I make it my personal mission to be a dick about it (not to anyone in the services personally, its the system I despise) whenever possible, but then again all this is coming from a pacifist.

Obviously, I realize my views are somewhat radical on these issues and I'm not trying to start an argument. I'm just stating my opinion on the subject and you're welcome to your own.

i say the navy. you could be trained to be an electrician or something while your in service and i your able to fly planes well you could work on an air craft carrier and do both(i think the navy is responible for the pilots that fly those planes but i could be completely wrong )

EDIT: after reading the thread im not wrong

thank god

This just seems difficult now. Can't air force pilots fly planes that are modified to land on air carriers or am I seriously just missing something here?

Do you wanna go to sea? What sort of aircraft/missions are you most interested in? The Navy and the Air Force have their own distinct roles. Check out which service does what and choose that way.

I'm sure they can with the necessary training, gotta be some difference in landing a jet on a moving ship and a mile long runway
