ok so when im singing and not playing guitar but still have my guitar set to a high volume it gives a horrible high pitched feedback.
it doesn't do it when im not around a vocal mic.
can anyone shed some light as to why, and what sort of things i can do to stop it. much appreciated, cheers

Keep your mic pointed away from amps, or get a noise reduction pedal, or keep your hand on the strings to keep them muted.

Are you running your guitar amp & vocals through a stage monitor? If so, back your guitar volume down in the monitor mix.
I love all 5 (sold a couple) of my Carvin X-100b's.
