So I'm giving guitar lessons to a fifth grader who's into stuff like Ozzy Osbourne, Styx, and Journey. I used to be giving him 30 minute lessons, but we're moving up to an hour, and I'm not sure what I'll cover for that amount of time. I'm going to teach him a good rock riff (any suggestions? I've already done Crazy Train), and we'll jam on it for a little, but then I don't know what to cover after that?

I took lessons at about that time, and the things that got me interested were
A) Have him bring in a song to try to learn. Not anything ultra-shredish, but just something he listens to, and
B) Get him into music theory. Circle of fourths and fifths, scales, stuff like that. Set him up for the harder stuff later.
