I really want to play licks like this:

T T S S S E T T S S S E T
--17h-18p-17p-15--------17-18-17-15--------17
-----------------17-----------------17-------
--------------------16-----------------16----
---------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------

And 5 string sweeps and stuff, but I simply don't have the skill. I'm actually a pretty bad player for the years that I've been playing.

I'm curious about what you shredders can tell me about how to practice onward this. What things do I have to master first? How to spread my practice over different things (alternate picking, theory etc.) I can't even play 1 song with the cd. Maybe a few with Guitar Pro but only easy ones.
I hope anyone can help.

Im sorry, I just don't see how you could argue that hardcore isn't metal. That just seems arrogant to me.

Yes, its its own kind of metal, but its still metal.

Guitar techniques forum.

Basically, what you need to do is take every single thing you do now - and perfect it. Make every motion clean, precise and as economical as possible. That way playing fast is easy, jah? (indeed, every form of playing is easy!)

Until the AT stickies are fixed, take a look at my correct practice and finger independence vids to get an idea of how this is done.
