The only way to improve technique is with Guitar Hero. Sell all of your gear and get that. then you can impress people with your skilz.

That's actually in D standard.

TS, try Ænima by Tool. It's metal-ish.

Learn to play Through the fire and flames,
It will help out when kids say "Can you play TTAF?" . Most people say "No" because that song is quite overrated.

But seriously..
You want to play Metal because of a Black Les Paul? Wtf.

And Metal riffs?
Here's some simple METAL riffs that everyone knows and would hate you if you brag about knowing 'em:
Enter Sandman
Crazy Train
One
Back in Black
T.N.T
Highway to hell
Iron Man

And if you know all of them already..
Try some Megadeth.

i might just not be very good at being a pit-monkey, but what could anyone say here that could be classified as "perverted"?

nothing.

but that doesnt stop me from trying:

"so ive been riding this **** for 9 mths and im starting to want to buy a metal dildo because i got a new black man to play with. so i wanted you guys to recomend me some easy positions that i can just mess around with until i get the rest of my techniques down"

see? it doesnt work. nothing to worry about.

single note lines interspersed with some chugging always sound good... try some Lamb of God, it's really fast but fun. Or transpose some Killswitch Engage to drop D instead of drop C, maybe "Rose of Sharyn"

You think at 9 months he's gonna be able to riff through some thrash?

Get real. As an aside, I don't do the highschool 'let's subdivide metal into all these little niches so we can feel special by telling someone else we're more metal than they are' thing. Metal is metal.

Don't be that guy.

Anyway, I HIGHLY suggest you learn metalcore and metal at the same time. Metalcore works off the easy parts of metal and adds in it's own hard parts and metal works off the easy parts of metalcore and adds in it's own hard parts also. Learning them together would help you learn them both faster. Unholy Confessions - A7X and Are you Dead Yet - Children of Bodom would be a good place to start. Might be a bit tough at first, but you can thank me later. :P
