Recently I traded my Splawn Quickrod for a '97 Schecter Custom Shop Avenger...

It was about $2,800 back in 97. Traded with a great guy on HC (Dimebag 11). Planning on remodeling the guitar.

Solid Mahogany Body
Solid Maple neck
22 Jumbo Frets
Dual EMG 89's with coil split
Sperzel Locking Tuners
OFR
Trident Inlays

I was planning on trading it away as soon as I got it for an RG550XXDY but I set the guitar up a little and it's easily the best playing thing I've layed hands on. Yes, better than my Carvin.

I plan on following up and updating this thread as I get further along remodeling it.

I took the deal 2 weeks ago.

I miss the Quickrod but this Schecter plays amazing. Already have a set of new pickups to install in it.

Not too sure on what colors to go with or anything though.

I'm either going to stain it blue and keep the tridents so it's kind of like a Poseidon/Neptune theme, or stain it slightly darker and go with a two tone black/chrome hardware theme.

What else are you planning on doing to it?

I know you've removed the tacky 666 thing, and are hopefully gunna fill that nasty ding on the bottom but what else?

EDIT: ^ Oh. Yeah do that

i need to trade away this walnut RG, my **** is too hard to sell, id have a much easier time trading it. how about i trade it for your carvin? haha.

that guitar looks badass, if its old schecter, im sure its probably one of the best playing guitars around.
#8
Sorry bro, not gonna trade it. This guitar is a lead players dream. I already own 4 other RG's.

I would be interested in trading my RG320FM w/edge pro, EMG 89/81, killswitch, and JEM case.

Ippon and Murph, as far as mods go, other than changing the pickups, removing the paint, I might trim away a little of the neck. It's got a wierd feel, plays great, but feels awkward. The 25.5" scale is so different to me, I'm used to 24.75, 25, and 27.

The new pickups are going to be Suhr Aldrich in the neck and a Joe Barden in the bridge.

Pretty tempting, nice looking walnut + gold (kinda like my carvin), but I'm gonna have to say no. That RG would sell for about $500 despite having about $400 of extra parts into a $400 guitar, and a $150 case. Other than that I don't have much to sell or money needed for fixing this guitar.

People usually pay for the brand, not quality. Have you tried posting it on Harmony Central?

Good luck with your sale bro!

I'd delete your old posts where you were selling it, put it up for $1,200 to get more views and serious guys, lower it if needed. People are weird on there when it comes to trading.

The more serious you seem the more serious other guys look at it.

If you have the buy it now option on ebay that gets guys antsy because at any moment that thing could be gone. My ebay feedback is pretty weak, 10 auctions, 100% as a buyer only. Sold nothing.

Put my roadking on ebay a year ago, took a week and only went to $1,700. The buyer didn't follow through. Had a friend repost it with 450+ 100% ebay feedback, sold it in an hour for $450 more.

On HC you can post the thread my custom guitar for your amp/guitar. Pretty popular thing lately, most guys on there want money for stuff instead of trading, doing that will get everyone who constantly offers trades interested.

yeah, id have much better luck selling a gibson than my guitar, id gladly trade it for anything i could sell for 700+ range. i have three ebay acccounts, so i wonder if i put it up with a reserve and buy it now and threw a bid on it if people would be more interested.
#20
That usually helps. Or you can use it after someone bids to bump up their price as long as you don't go over.

Started making some serious headway when I started chiseling the paint off of the top instead of sanding.

I can't believe Schecter's custom shop would smother a beautiful 1 piece mahogany body with over 1/16" of paint.

I think hes more scraping than chiseling, he doesnt seem to be hurting that beautiful body so far which is a good thing.

I used a Mouse Orbital sander for about half an hour on the upper horn just to see if it was feasible. Didn't even see wood. There seems to be some type of clearcoat that the actual paint was sprayed onto so I'm definately not hurting the wood much at all. Gotta do a fine sanding afterwards.

The reason the hardware is still on is because I get the urge to play it after scraping some paint off. It only takes 5 minutes to take off anyways, scraping the paint has taken about an hour and I'm about halfway through the front.

Got a teaser of the cleaned up neck....

To further increase tension amongst us all.... my dad removed all of the paint on the guitar. I have to say it is the best looking mahogany I've ever seen. It has a very golden color, something that most mahoganys tend to lack in comparison to this. It is indeed a 1 piece slab.

The guitar's birthday was September 29, 1997.

Haha, "Hells Kitchen"?

What appears to be damage is not gouges or scratches at all, despite how objectable my use of a scraper to pry and peel paint off of the guitar in comparison to sanding. It's the clearcoat that was under the paint. I dunno what schecter was thinking. As soon as it gets sanded off it will look like secks.

That is very gold for being mahogany. How accurate is the color in the pic?

Well, it's honduran mahogany. that might have somethign to do with it.

It's actually a little less orange and a little more gold in person. It's extremely cool though, if you hold the guitar one way and turn it another the way the grain flows, it's almost like it's changing color.

Regarding the color change-- It looks like it's quartersawn. LP Addict could tell you better than I can. I've got a fretboard that does something similar and I don't know what to call it. I guess the best word is 'chatoyant' rather than 'figured' but I'm not really sure.

I just can't think of any mahogany pieces I've seen that are that gold! It looks like a great piece of wood.

I don't really know what that means, but I think it looks phenominal.

Originally I was really planning on staining it blue but I just can't cover that wood up.

Now my color scheme I originally planned is out the window.

Probably going to go with gold hardware to match my Carvin. Any other ideas are more than welcome!

To get off topic again, the background in the pic of the fretboard looks like some sort of 'I Spy' game.

Are you going to be selling the old hardware?
I'd be keen to buy it, throw me a PM.
