where do we find said sticky?
but cheers guys for uploading this stuff, it's awesome!

Also, is the "Extreme String Skipping" lick included in the gp file possible that goes like this?:

----------------11----------------------------
------------10-----10------------------------
---------9-------------------------------------
------8----------------------------------------
--7--------------------------------------------
--5--5--5--5--5--5--------------------------

Cheers!

I would just hybrid pick most of that...

Sorry if this is in the wrong thread.

Sorry if this makes me sound like a noob of all noobs, but i've been playing electric for bout 3 years? and i can't understand how slow my improvement is. I hear people in guitar shops who have only been playing for like a year and are amazing, plus i started elec. already knowing notes etc cos i played classical before that.

I mainly don't have the discipline to play shreddy stuff because i don't realy like it, but i wanna be able to play like Frusciante or SRV on their super fast runs and I don't know how long I've been working on this, but I'm not getting better.

I also think a drawback is the fact that I appreciate slow stuff, but i want to be able to play fast and using other than two notes, mainly just to show off. And be happier with my playing knowing I'm slightly more versatile.
:deep breath:
Any tips/comments/annoyed people/suggestions/moaners/uninterested passers by? (not the last one)

woah just rereading and noticed how bad my grammar was sorry.

can someone point me in the right direction?

you know how a 4/4 signature would keep the beat
1 + 2 + 3 + 4 +

well and someone well me what the ways to keep on beat with a 3/4, 7/8, and 5/8 signatures are?

my idea:
3/4
1 + a 2 + a 3 + a

someone help or give me a link please?

i can keep in time with a metronome, but i like to keep a beat with my pen when im away from my guitar. thanks!

Think of 3/4 like a waltz, with a lift on the first beat, like 1 2 3 1 2 3

Money by Pink Floyd uses 7/8, and I have no idea about 5/8 sorry.

3/4 is divided into 3 crotchet beats, so you would count ONE two three ONE two three etc

7/8 is divided into two crochet beats and a dotted crotchet beat (or any combination of those). If i was counting that i would probably count the two crotchet beats and then follow that by counting 3 quavers.

5/8 is divided into one crotchet and one dotted crotchet.

This is great and everything, but seriously, where do I start?

There is so many things, is there a starting place? Is there a specific lesson one should start with first? Gah I'm so confused.
#53
The UG weekly lessons are great starting points for figuring out how to warm up and what you're practice style is. The progression of weeks is pretty logical in my opinion.
#54
Sorry to sound stupid, again, but where do I find these weekly lessons?

Is there a link to them?

Tuxguitar question? Just installed this, is there a way to zoom in on the tabs, they are so small I can't see the numbers very well.

If you use firefox press CTRL ALT and + or it might just be CTRL +

Think that should sort it, just the same with - to zoom out again

I noticed I couldn't see all the Zip files from the old sticky in this thread, so here they are.

Freepower, I don't know if you still need them but you might want to put them in the main post

i cant believe techincal difficulties is a easy song... its bloody hard
thx for this dude
#65
This is a great list, but could anyone recommend me something a tad bit easier than technichal difficulties for alternate picking?
#66
I'd say Curse of Castle Dragon, Glasgow Kiss(except the solo), and both the Megadeth songs are either on par with TD or slightly easier. TD is probably still the best song for alt. picking.
#67
ok you need to check that link that says thousands of excercises, it gave me a virus

Lol, its not a real virus dude. It's a folder labeled virus files. It's a joke. Do a scan. No virus. Ta-dah.
#69
Well, I'm about to learn flight of the bumblebee as part of the 21 day challenge. The parts I have played seem far easier than any part of technichal difficulties. Perhaps flight of the bumblee should be on the list?

Cant believe i missed this earlier thanks guys practice was getting abit stale, now got heap more of exercises and licks n what not to practice good job.

1 question in regards to the songs for technique part, are they in order of difficulty? Because if so, I object to some of that-for example in alt picking This Dying Soul is before Octavarium-Octavarium is much easier imo...

OMFG that first download is like a godsend dude!
Lol thanks for all this work you put in

I just figured out an excellent lick for alternate picking that sounds awesome too! Play every bar twice. Start with an upstroke for outside picking.
E||--------------------|------------------------|--------------------|
B||--------------------|------------------------|--------------------|
G||--------------------|------------------------|--12---9---12---9---|
D||--12---9---12---9---|--12----9----12----9----|-----9---9----9---9-|
A||-----9---9----9---9-|-----11---11----11---11-|--------------------|
E||--------------------|------------------------|--------------------|

--------------------------||
--------------------------||
--------------------------||
--14----11----14----11----||
-----12----12----12----12-||
--------------------------||

It's the solo from Aerodynamic by Daft Punk. Enjoy!

Please don't count this as a double post, since that was over a week ago.

Anyway, I'm back from camp, and I've got some handwritten exercises and licks from Paul Gilbert himself, as well as some fantastic ones from my teacher, Dave Martone. Holla if you want them.
