Coils are much easier to learn if you have a scale pattern memorized. Learning from the tab I provided is a bit more difficult. The idea is to play a scale in an ascending or descending direction, but only play three notes from the scale. Then play three more notes of the scale in the same direction, but this time start one note higher or lower in the scale than you did to before. It sounds confusing so it's much easier to just call the exercise coils.
