So, my idea is that a shorter scale = less tension. But following that logic, to achieve the same tension as a full scale bass, you'd have to string with bigger string gauges, which means you get thicker and better tone with the same amount of tension.

Is this true, or has anybody ever tried it? This is just a theory of mine based just on my knowledge of string tension, which isn't very good anyways, but I think it'd be an interesting experiment.

Would it really though? The strings would be significantly thicker, but the string tension would be the same.
