I have a really crappy crate amp at the moment. I absolutely hate it. But i know nothing about amps!

Im interested in getting a new amp for under the 1000 dollar mark. I really like nice clean tones but also heavy distortion for metal breakdowns and such (bands like misery signals, born of osiris)

If anyone could recommend some good amps that fit that description, I would really appreciate it

Also, how important is an amp head for the overall sound? If i get the head, would i also need the cabinet to get sound? =( sorry for the noob questions

thanks!

Yes you would also need a cab to go with it, probably at least a 2x12 if you're playing high gain, so budget around $400 for that if you're looking at heads

WTF- Remember to tell them that most of those (3120 excepted) can only be found used.

+1 to WTFs big list of BROOTLZ. Also look for Bugera's and Ampeg VH-140c's (used.)

EDIT: ^Fenders are definatly NOT what he needs. And why shouldn't he have a grand to spend on an amp? He's new to the world of amps, not poor. Please post a helpful comment next time.

Squire Standard Strat rebuilt with Fender USA parts
