So this term I'm taking a class called modern american folklore. the paper we need to write has to be about a website that serves both as a means of information, but also a social tool. (I'm a spring term senior, of course its this easy). So naturally, seeing as I've spent countless hours over the last 4 years on this site, I have decided to write it about UG. I thought it would be interesting to poll the pit.
so the questions I ask are..
How does UG affect you informationally?
How would you define it socially?
and any other comments.
i already have most of my paper written so im not just scounging for ideas.

I get informed of Kensai's Godness.
Socially, it's a forum where people come to witness how great Kensai is.

Paper done.

That actually sounds like an awesome paper.

Make sure you talk about how UG chooses to organize information, and what type of information it will not provide for you. Think about the explicit and implicit rules for communication in UG--that's the kind of stuff that makes a good paper (and is much more interesting than: "this is what I learned and this is who I met").

What topics are off limits and why, how do certain members go about becoming a big part of the community, how are the hierarchies of the communities arranged etc.

Damn that sounds like a paper that would actually be enjoyable to write.

a) I download inaccurate tabs and Guitar Pro files, while occasionaly stumbling across a decent one. I also like the daily news on the homepage.

b) The anus of the internet...No, that's 4chan. The PIT, not the entire UG site, is a cool place to get some laughs and kill a few hours.

c) TuxGuitar FTW.

Informationally? I learn things that I never really counted on knowing... I learn some crazy **** that might help in random trivia, and I usually get most of the important information late but not at all If UG were to be my only source of current events and information. Luckily, it isn't. lol.

Socially, It's like a real community... just more outgoing, fun-loving, and expressive. a majority of UG are good people and they mean well, but may come across as douches at times. But who doesn't? (excluding Metaldud...) But most of the people here are also really witty and actually contemplate a lot of the things that are undermined in life. That's why I like 'em. UG's filled with talent, philosophy and good lol's.

How would you define it socially?

An exploration into social depravity and apathy. If there is any doubt in your minds that the internet is a means of corrupting and desensitizing youth, UG will change that in an instant.

To be honest, I think you'll have a tough time finding peer revised journal articles about UG.

Wait, you're in high school? Just cite the wikipedia page. Seems legit.
