You should be able to play Eruption by now. Can you?

Just an observation, but why does eruption always seem to be the benchmark?

Really I want to say don't worry, just play. But it's natural to think, how good should I be? It depends what style you're playing, what you want to get out of it, your commitment, how far you want to go.

You might see someone who can shred the hell out of a guitar, and someone else who can improv a sweet blues solo, or someone who is a great finger picker.

Who wins? The person who loves playing the most.
One Sexy Canadian Man.

...and single too.

I got a video for that. It will teach you how to whammy....WITHOUT A WHAMMY BAR!!!

But hey TS if you can't play Tornado of Souls from start to finish then quit playing and go live with the penguins. You're useless.

Nahhh I kid, I kid. But get on that Tornado.

I don't know about how good you are, but skills? You should be able to play with your teeth.

Behind your back.

Between your legs.

Simultaneously.

lol there shouldn't be a certain song or something you can play. Its how you feel personally. If you think you've achieved a lot then cool.

I guess you should be able to play the solo to Live forever by oasis, but don't worry if it doesn't work or the other way around, don't think your SRV when you can play it perfectly in a short amount of time.
It all depends.

Depends how often you practice and what you practice. I've been playing nearly 3 years and have only just mastered harmonics
Come back if you want to

All depends on the individual. If you're not happy with how you're playing after a year then try harder or give up (duuur)...

...But for the love of not my god, DON'T try to compare yourself to other people, 'cus unless you're at the stage where you can wear a Ted Nugent shirt without feeling like a phoney, comparison will only lead to disappointment.

it's different for everyone, and there isn't a "you should be able to play this after playing for so long" type of thing. if you feel like you're doing good, then that's good enough.

if you'd like input from an outside vantage point find some guitarists who've been playing for at a least of few years, play with them for a while, and ask them how well you're doing.

Except Dave didn't write any entire Metallica solos.

His contribution to Ride the Lightning was the spider riff before the breakdown.
