ok, right now my guitar is an ltd h-101 and i love it. I am going to buy a les paul. i am looking to spend around $1200 australian. i don't really know if i should buy an epiphone or buy a gibson for three times the price. after reading a few threads here i have begun to consider buying something in the ltd ec range. i would like your opinions on what to do cause i don't really want to blow $1200. Thanks guys.

Hm, i'd go either LTD EC or Epiphone. Gibson are stupidly priced, and you might even be able to afford a new amp

Do they sound like a les Paul or do they just have a similar shape
If someons says they want a LP they mean the sound not the shape

I dont have any experience with them, but the LTD EC with EMG's would be higher gain more for metal, where as one with Seymour Duncans would give you a more gibson style tone. Epiphone are basically gibson but with less quality and a lower price tag, great guitars for the money though.

im pretty confident that a company who makes LP shaped guitars is also trying to recreate the gibson tone (unless the hardware is drasticaly different)

Shreadhead22 had nothing helpful to say to me. He just immediatly started being a prick.

Shredhead's advice is the best in the thread.
