I laugh and become terribly confused when this song is mentioned.

It's an awful song with a mediocre solo.

Fixed.

Everyone knows that "Freebird" is the most epic song in the whole of music from now till all the way back to whenever music was first recognised.

Farewell by Summoning. No contest at all, ever.

I've heard good things about Summoning, but never bothered to look them up, what are they like.

And to counter, And Then There Was Silence by Blind Guardian, or Elizabeth by Kamelot.

Long songs =/= Epic Songs.

At times, the long structure does help, but short songs can be "epic". Like this:

^Summoning are a league of their own in the world of black metal. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFbBKiSC2MY

Skip to 2:40ish if you're impatient. Quite literally the best chorus ever.

I mean, can you get more Epic than that intro??!!

Apart from that, I firmly believe that any song with Hammond B3 embellishments is by default, epic!

i've always found pop to be harder to play than metal... especially shred metal... it's just really fast tremolo picking and the occasional palm mute... and the only chords you have to worry about are power chords...
