I scored one of these at an auction today. I think I am going to get it restored(if it's worth it) as it doesn't work right now. I don't know much about it other than the fact that it's old. Any information would be helpful. Thanks
matt
here is a picture of what I got

You are now required to play Charlie Christian songs for 2 days straight.

I hope you have a Jazz Box to do so
#6
That's a sweet amp
If you play the style of music that it'll do well for (old school stuff), go ahead and get it restored.
If you play anything modern, it won't be worth it to fix it up.
I'll buy it though if you decide you don't want it

You CAN play anything with anything....but some guitars sound right for some things, and not for others. Single coils sound retarded for metal, though those who are apeshit about harpsichord probably beg to differ.

what do you think a good one of these in working order, completely redone would go for?

why do you need to know that first? I am just wondering about the average street price for these in perfect working order that have been restored.
#15
TBH, I don't know how much these things cost in good condition. That's why I wanted to know how much you spent on it.
From there, I can get a very rough estimation on how much it'll be worth once you fix it up.

Thanks, but i don't know if I want to say how much I got it for, as it may hurt the eventual sale of this amp....know what I mean? I mean insn't that kinda the sellers business, what he acquired his merchandise for? I'm sure someone on here knows about what a good old one of these amps go for.
#17
not really it just seems like your afraid you got ripped off... which you probably did. i would have passed on it. good luck.
#18
I guess I get what you're saying.

Depending on what's wrong with it, it might not be worth fixing.
What is wrong with it exactly?

Anyways, it'll definitely need a recap if it hasn't been serviced. That can get pricey if you pay a tech.

You could get maybe a grand for it.

Maybe.

The only gibson tube amp that I've seen go for a lot is the GA50.
#20
Yeah, it probably has a good amount of collectible value.
Not quite sure if it'd be worth a grand though.

You still haven't told us what's wrong with it. See my post a little up.
It might be worth to fix it if all you need to do is a recap and tube change.

well I don't really know what's wrong with it. I plugged it in, plugged into it and turned it on and nothing happened...no noise, no nothing!

BTW, that estimate is for an all-original, minty mint condition BR6.

Since yours needs repairs, and isn't in minty mint condition, the most I personally would pay for it is 500. At the most.

And even then, I'd hesitate.

Well, does it turn on (like, powers on)?
I'm just trying to estimate how much it would cost to fix it.

If it doesn't turn on, it could be as little as a fuse, but it could be something with the switches or power transformer. And the caps will definitely need to be changed, and maybe some of the pots would need to be replaced, depending on how the amp was used. The tubes are more than likely on their last leg, if the amp has been used.

It could end up being a pretty pricey fix.

BTW, if you wanted to let it go at this state, i'm interested

I don't think it powered up but then again I don't know what to look for or where to look. I have talked to a avintage guitar and amp dealer and he said he has seen these 46-47's go for $800-$1000...restored that is, he said restored ones. So darkarbite if your offer is decent for it in non working order I will consider it. Otherwise it looks like i'll be getting it fixed up, I found some tubes for it and caps as well.

I say fix it up then.
I wouldn't have the cash to buy it at the current state, anyways right at the moment. Plus, a nice national amp popped up on my craigslist for real cheap that i'll probably go for.

Have fun fixing it up, and once you do, get us some audio clips

Still needs a cap job though, useing those OEM is like drivening a car with no oil, its not a matter of if it will fail, its matter of WHEN it will fail. Good luck, Old Gibsons on ebay usually go for under 500 but I havn't seen one quite like that one, should bring around 500 dollars in working condition.
