Hey, im going into guitar center tomorrow and hopefully trading in my Ibanez SR500, Squire J Bass, and an old B.C. Rich Warlock guitar. If they give me enough money for these three I may be getting a 6 string. I played a few 6 strings there today and I really didnt have any discomfort while playing them and I could feel myself getting used to the neck in the ~20 minutes I was there.

The main two 6 string basses I was looking at are these:
Ibanez 706

Ibanez 506

What are the differences between these two besides the finish? Guitar Center must have been having a sale on the 706 because it was only about 699 or so. I love the active pickups in these basses; it gives them so much versatility.

Would you recommend one over the other?

Are there other notable 6 strings that I should be looking at?

I have the sr706 and it's a great 6 for the price. The difference between the two is that the 506 is made of mahogany and 706 is made with maple. There could be other differences but I think that's the main one.

the neck, according to GC.com, on the 506 contains wenge.

I like wenge. a lot. IMO, the only way the good lord could have improved the design of mankind is making their skin feel like wenge.

really. that'd be sweet. so that one. unless you don't like wenge...

I wouldn't call what we have here on the Bass Forum a mentality. It's more like the sharing part of an AA meeting.

I was about to call blasphemy, but you're considering another ibanez. Good man (: I'd stick with the 506, since you know the feel, and like it, etc. I prefer mahogany to maple, but I don't know about you.

Damn, this post is pretty much useless. At least I tried

only the top is maple guys, that thing probably isn't thick enough to make a difference.

I went with the 706, I like the finish better and the neck is supposedly jabota/bubinga but it feels and looks almost exactly like wenge. Ill go along with humanity and say that I also love wenge.

The only difference that I can see between the 506 and the 706 is that the top is quilted maple with a transparent black finish. I think this bass looks superior to the 506 and thats mainly the reason I chose it.

Hopefully ill upload pics soon.
