overdrive: less gain, smoother clipping, attempts to replicates power amp distortion of a good tube amp

distortion: harder clipping, more gain, attempts to replicates preamp gain of a good amp

i personally believe they're the same thing, just to different degrees. nutinpwnsgibson pretty much covered how it's generalized.

not that big of a deal, it's not like it's a 'why do you hate mg/spiders?' thread.

but if you look around, you should be able to find a thread that's already got pages FULL of detailed responses answering your question to a fuller extent than we've covered .....wait....I didn't really cover anything, but you get what i mean..
