Just got this guitar in the mail today (thanks jim )
Pics..

Will be doing some work on this as i get money.
EMG 81/85, till i can afford to get the original pups wound.
New tuners,
New frets
New electronics,
New pick guard

Undecided:
Should i leave the finish, or sand, re stain and polish?
Keep the old school tailpiece and string mount or go string thru tuneomatic?

Opinions?

I was thinking about leaving the finish as well, Looks good that way.

I'll prob put a TOM on then, and i'll try to get it working with that tailpiece.

Hmm, if this wasn't a classic, old school guitar, i would inlay the back, since it's all flat, but it wouldn't be right to do that..

Plus i have no idea what i would inlay.

i would try to leave everything as original as possible. it helps the value and keeps it more vintage looking. maybe a TOM..... only if the one on it now is absolute crap.

Huh? Most of it is, I'm just replacing what doesn't work, I'll prob keep the tuners now, after working on them a bit.

Just need a tom, and pickguard then.

I thought I remembered Jim saying that almost nothing on that guitar other than the wood is original.

Woodburning a plastic pickguard? No.

And almost nothing on that guitar is original. I got it from LP who got it at a yardsale.

A TOM will fit over the bridge posts perfectly, but the holes in the tom will be too big. Get some dowels or something that are the same dia as the TOM holes and drill a hole in the middle for the posts to fit.

jim, he kinda said hes doing a maple pickguard....

do some epic "irish knot" type design!!!

Bobby, don't inlay the back of it. Inlay the wood guard instead.
Ever hear of Grizzly Industrial? They supply wood- and metal-working machines to everyone from Fender and Gibson to the U.S. Military and the Federal Government. The President of the company is one of, if not THE, best luthier out there. He did this on the back of an acoustic guitar.

Check it out: http://www.grizzly.com/sbguitar/sbguitar.aspx?serial=005

i dont think he sold it, if ir emember reading the big grizzly category correctly while taking a dump a few months ago, he keeps them for himself. his electrics are hideous, but he does make a beautiful acoustic.

, I don't see how you can make an electric hideous, other than body shape, paint and well yea thats pretty much it, but that acoustic is really good.

He doesn't sell any of his guitars. He also never paints them, he always does some burst or stain job onto a retardedly expensive exibition grade top because he's so rich that he can.
